The Perlan 2 Project is a finalist for the 2017 Collier Trophy. The NAA will announce the winner on March 23, 2018. (It was hard not to provide sarcastic commentary on one of the nominees.)

According to the National Aeronautic Association, “The Robert J. Collier Trophy is awarded annually ‘for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America, with respect to improving the performance, efficiency, and safety of air or space vehicles, the value of which has been thoroughly demonstrated by actual use during the preceding year.’” (https://naa.aero)

According to a February 5th press release: “The 2017 Nominees are:

• Boeing 737 MAX
• Cirrus Aircraft Vision SF50
• Edwards AFB F-35 ITF
NASA/JPL Cassini Project Team
Perlan Project
• TSA, ALPA, and A4A Known Crewmember® and TSA Pre✓® Programs (Can we all agree this is lame?)
• USMC, Office of Naval Research, and Aurora Flight Sciences AACUS Autonomous Helicopter System
Vanilla Aircraft VA001
Zee Aero, subdivision of Kitty Hawk.”
